The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at Sacred Heart's Martire atrium.

The public is invited. Copies of Spicer's book, "The Briefing," will be available for sale.

The Distinguished Leaders Series features leaders from a variety of sectors who have made significant business and public service contributions. It is presented and hosted by SHU Trustee Katie Burke, who serves as senior strategist and global chief of staff at Edelman.

Public opinion polls show most people recognize Spicer's  name and his trademark style behind the White House podium.

Fewer people know that the Connecticut College graduate serves as a commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve and is currently assigned to the Joint Staff.

But before the former White House press secretary made his mark as one of the most recognized staffers in the Trump Administration, Spicer built a decades-long career in Republican politics.

This included witnessing and shaping the inner workings of Washington, D.C., from every vantage point — as a House of Representatives communicator, assistant U.S. trade representative, chief strategist of the Republican National Committee, top adviser to presidential campaigns and ultimately White House spokesman.

Few in Washington are as well-equipped as Spicer to pull back the curtain and dissect what's really happening in the nation's capital.

He is the founder and president of RigWil LLC, a strategic consulting firm that provides insights to C-suite corporate and association executives.

Since leaving the White House, Spicer has traveled the world addressing groups, corporations, forums, schools and associations as an exclusive speaker of the Worldwide Speakers Group. He is a council member of the Gerson Lehrman Group and served as a visiting fellow at Harvard University’s Institute of Politics.

"The Briefing" sheds light on President Trump's first year in office as well as the 2016 campaign. Spicer will sign purchased copies of his book after the talk.

The Rhode Island native holds a master's degree in national security and strategic studies from the U.S. Naval War College. He has been active in a number of causes supporting veterans, adoption and cancer research.

The husband and father of two resides in Virginia but remains a fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
